Don’t be shy - go ahead and haggle...


Most of us expect to haggle on the price of that souvenir on vacation - but wouldn’t consider it here at home...

According to marketing professor Stephen Hoch, everything is fair game. He says retailers drop prices all the time and call it a sale and as long as they’re selling above cost, they’re making a profit. Of those who aren’t afraid to bargain, 89% are successful. However, more than half of American consumers just can’t do it - and here’s their excuse:

* 35% say they refuse to bargain, period.

* 20% of women say haggling makes them uncomfortable.

* 10% of men cringe at the thought. 

* 43% who earn less than $50,000 a year said they haggle.

* 58% percent of higher earners are ready to make a deal.
