If you ever hit “send” on an email to the WRONG person...

After basking in your wit or embracing your anger in that email – you suddenly realize you hit “send” or “reply” to the wrong person...

Few things are worse than that sinking post-send feeling – and there’s no button for that. Etiquette expert Jodi R. R. Smith says don’t bother trying to undo your dirty deed with another email. That could just make things worse because it will be lacking the tone you’ll need to atone. Your best bet is to pick up the phone or go to the person immediately. Explain that you hit the wrong button and offer a sincere apology. You need to communicate that you were wrong and be accountable for any damage you’ve done.

In the event that you’ve hit the dreaded “reply all” with your inappropriate comments – you may need to address that one with another group email. Keep it simple and address the whole group asking them to kindly disregard your last response. If further explanation is needed – deal with that on a more personal level.
