Tylenol or Advil?

The next time you’ve got aches and pains – should you take Tylenol or Advil?

There is a difference between the most popular pain relievers. If you’re not sure which is best for what ails you – Dr. Orly Avitzur, Consumer Reports Medical Advisor, has the recommended remedy:

• Acitominophen – the generic of Tylenol - is the best first choice for mild pain, run of the mill headaches or fever reducer. Heavy drinkers should avoid it though because it can cause serious liver damage.

• Ibuprophen – the generic of Advil and Motrin – is the better choice for pain with inflammation. Just remember It can have dangerous side effects if you take high doses of it, or take it too often. Make sure to check with your doctor if you need it more than a few times a month – or if you already take aspirin to protect your heart.
