Medical Scams

If you see an offer for discount medical cards or free medical equipment – beware!

Health care fraud costs all of us a fortune – and there are some really common scams out there to avoid.

• Free medical equipment such as canes, scooters or walkers. If a solicitor asks for a Medicare or insurance number over the phone or internet – don’t do it.

• If your doctor tries to sell you medical products – check to see if it’s something that's available at your local pharmacy.

• Beware of medical discount cards. There are some bogus ones out there. Check to see if your doctor, pharmacy or local hospitals accept them first.
