Asthma Relief

If you’ve got asthma – skip the artificial sweetener...

Asthma is on the rise. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 12 adults have it and 1 in 10 school aged kids. Mark Stengler, author of “The Natural Physician’s Healing Therapies,” says there’s more to it than what we’re breathing – what we’re eating can make a difference too. There are some elements in our diets that can actually trigger a problem for asthmatics. Dr. Stengler tells his patients to avoid foods with artificial sweeteners and preservatives, which can aggravate asthma symptoms. Food containing gluten can be a problem too. That’s a group of proteins found in wheat, rye and barley.

Stress is another key trigger of asthma. If you can find a stress management program that works for you, such as yoga or biofeedback, you may ultimately be able to reduce the amount or frequency of your asthma meds or inhaler.
