Wedding Gifts

We’re getting into peak wedding season. So how much should you spend on the gift?

Weddings are expensive – not just to throw – but to attend. If it’s a family member or close friend, you could wind up spending hundreds of dollars. If you’re not sure how much is too much, TheNest.com has a wedding gift formula:

• First-tier, which is close friends and relatives - $100 to $150.
• Second-tier friends and associates – take $25 off the first tier.
• Third-tier, or everyone else – try to budget $75 to $100 for the gift.

If you’ll be attending wedding showers or engagement parties that require a gift, use about 20% of your tier allowance for that.
