If you’re wondering what to do with those post-Halloween pumpkins...
You've got several options. If the pumpkin was carved – you can bury it whole or smaller pieces of it in your garden or patch of property you’d like to fertilize. Pumpkin decomposes quickly and enriches the soil around it. A hallowed out pumpkin is also a great container for soil you’d like to plant with next spring. Just pack the pumpkin full of regular or potting soil and find a nook on your property to store it for the winter.
If you’ve got some ornamental pumpkins that haven’t been carved, you’ve got the makings of your own pumpkin patch for next year. Remove and wash the seeds and let them air dry for a few days. Store the dry seeds in an envelope and plant them next May. As for the rest of your pumpkin – lots of birds and animals LOVE pumpkin and would be happy to dispose of that for you.
