Nice guys finish last – and get paid less doing it!

Would you like a raise? Consider being mean...

A recent study finds mean or disagreeable people make more money - 5% more for mean women and a whopping 18% more for mean men. Psychiatrist Dr. Keith Ablow explains the phenomenon. He says disagreeableness tends to go hand in hand with being uncompromising, hard driving and focused on the bottom line.

In the study, hiring managers were actually less likely to hire people who presented themselves as too agreeable. Even though many employers CLAIM they are looking for agreeable people to work in a friendly environment, they often ultimately hire or promote the candidate with a mean streak who’s more likely to get things done and boost their bottom line.
