If you receive a piece of junk mail addressed to your child – it could mean trouble...

If your 4 year old gets a credit card offer in the mail – don’t ignore that...

Identity theft of children is on the rise. They are easy targets because most infants and toddlers aren’t likely to do a credit check for themselves. According to TransUnion.com, you really need to be on high alert regarding your child’s identity. If you receive junk mail, especially from a bank or credit card company, addressed to your child – their identity may have been stolen.

It’s a really good idea to request a copy of your child’s credit report – and pray it doesn’t exist. If it does, alert that credit agency about the potential fraud and they will guide you from there. You can also check your child’s social security earnings record. That will let you know if anyone has ever used their number to get a job.
