We tell our kids to watch their language – so what about the grown-ups?

Have you ever "slipped" in front of your kids?

Family therapist, Kathy Caprino, says that occasional curse word isn’t a big problem. After age 12, they’ve heard it before. If you don’t want your kids to curse, make sure you keep your language in check and ALWAYS apologize if you let one slip. There are some spoken words that really CAN do some damage:

• Hateful or judgmental statements

• Sarcastic or mean-spirited talk

• Criticizing yourself or others

• Arguments with family members

• Concern about current events or shocking news

Adult conversations often seem harmless to us – but can make young children feel insecure or frightened and set a bad example or desensitize older kids.
