If you’ve got a problem with your computer – find a kid!

Computer glitches can be super frustrating...

...but often they’re easier to fix than you might think – IF you’re a tech teacher. Jacqui Murray, K through fifth grade tech teacher, says there are about 20 problems that cause 80% of tech stoppages. And she’s got a fix for most of them. Here are a few of the most common glitches:

• Can’t exit a program? If that X or Quit tool is gone – hit Alt+4. It works 95% of the time.

• Can’t find Word? Right click on your desktop, select “New,” then “Word Document.”
• Mouse or keyboard doesn’t work? Re-plug and reboot.

• Start button or task bar gone? Push the Windows button on the lower right corner of the keyboard.

• No Sound? Make sure it’s not muted, then plug headphones in and reboot.

If you’re still stuck with something – there’s a good chance you’ve got a Geek Squad right in your house – or at least on your street. Just look for someone shorter than you. Jacqui and other good tech teachers routinely teach their students basic troubleshooting skills.
