There are a lot of famous dogs in canine history...
Lassie, Toto, Air Bud and Horan von Grafrath. Horan never hit the silver screen – but we have him to thank for the entire breed of German Shepherds. His birth name was Hektor - and he caught the eye of a German Cavalry Captain at a dog show in the late 1800s. The captain was so impressed with Hektor’s herding ability, endurance and agility, that he bought and bred him with similar type female dogs. The captain renamed Hektor - and Horand von Grafrath became the foundation sire of the German Shepherd breed we know today.
