Car dashboards are getting really high tech – and really distracting!

Some car makers are getting in on your social scene – through your dashboard!

OnStar has a new Facebook service. Its sync system can read text messages to you. That may sound convenient and safer than texting while driving – but you’d better be parked before trying to figure it out.

BMW’s iDrive system lets you navigate between communication, entertainment, climate, and navigation. You can even get to email, Facebook and Twitter on your dash – but they call those applications “Automotive Grade,” which means they have limited features for safety reasons.

Car radios are fancier too. If you’d like to manually tune your new BMW 7 series radio, it's a little complicated – all you have to do is push the controller knob to the left. Then, rotate the knob up to AM or FM. Next, push the knob down to confirm. Rotate again to manual and push it down again to confirm, which gives you the tuning screen. Now turn the knob to (this frequency). And do that while keeping your eyes and mind on the road. That’s all there is to it.
