Is your hair dry, oily or thinning? What that says about your health...

Are you having a bad hair day?

The condition of your hair can actually reveal some insight to your health and diet:

• Thinning hair: It’s normal for adult women to lose about 100 hairs a day. If you notice more than usual in the shower drain or on your brush, let your doctor know. Excessive hair loss can be linked to thyroid, autoimmune conditions, low iron or stress.

• Bald patches: If clumps of hair fall out it could be genetic. The condition can come and go and usually improves when stress levels are under control.

• Hair breakage: This could indicate a protein deficiency. Some blood work and diet assessment could help pinpoint the problem.

• Dry hair: You may need more omega-3 fatty acids. Eat more fish and nuts.

• Oily hair. You might have too much saturated fat in your diet. Try cutting back on meat, dairy and processed foods.
