Most of us associate the term “hair of the dog” with a hangover. The original remedy...


Some people swear by the hair of the dog remedy for a hangover...

...suggesting that having a little more of what made you sick might make you feel better. So where does the dog come in? That phrase originated a long time ago. “Hair of the dog that bit you” was a common folk remedy for rabies dating back to the 16th century. It was originally believed that placing hair from the dog that bit you into the wound would somehow prevent you from contracting the dreaded disease.

Unfortunately, the hair of the dog remedy hasn’t been found to be much more effective on hangovers than it was on rabies.
