If you wind up with a black eye – forget the steak and use this instead...

The days of treating a black eye with a slab of raw steak are over.

Not only is that a waste of a perfectly good steak, soothing your wound with bacteria is not a good idea. You can significantly reduce the ensuing dramatic color of a black eye with witch hazel. It’s soothing with anti-bacterial properties that will help reduce the swelling and bruising of an eye socket injury.

To treat your shiner, soak a cotton pad with the witch hazel. Lie down with your feet slightly elevated and lay the pad over the bruised area with your eye closed. Relax. You’ll need to stay in this position for about a half hour.

If you don’t have witch hazel handy, treat your black eye with a bag of frozen vegetables or very cold wet cloth. Leave it on the injury for 20 minutes, take it off for ten, and then apply for another 20 minutes.
