The next time you have a headache – ask yourself “why?”

Before you pop a pain reliever for that headache – take a moment to analyze it...

Dr. Trupti Gokani, director of the North Shore Headache Clinic, says we get tension headaches for a reason and it’s important to determine your triggers. There’s a good chance you can shake that headache – and prevent one from coming back if you identify what brought it on in the first place.

Consider some common triggers. Do you need a break from your computer screen? How is the lighting? What is stressing you out? Are you hungry or thirsty? Addressing the underlying cause of the headache and giving your body what it’s asking for will likely get you faster and more effective relief than popping a pain reliever.
