• Sign up with a temp agency. Not only can that fill the gap and build experience and connections – it could lead to a permanent position.
• Take a class. Upgrading your current skills can’t hurt and looks good on your resume. There are even some low-cost or free classes and seminars available at many local libraries and community centers.
• Volunteer. Lending your skills to a local charitable organization can actually beef up your resume a bit.
Even if there are some past gaps on your resume – be prepared to fill them in a bit if asked. Take a moment to account for anything productive you did during those times, including travel, consulting friends or peers with your skills, or attempting to start your own business.
