Before you hit send on that resume – check for a few things that should NOT be on there...

You want your resume to stand out and describe you a bit – but you also want to avoid too much information!

Here are a few things to leave OFF that resume from Lylah Alphonse, Senior Editor at for Shine:

• Mission statement: “I am looking for…” They don’t care what you want. You need to point out your accomplishments and what YOU can do for THEM.

• “I was the Sr. Class President.” Good for you. Leave that OFF your resume - unless you’re still in or fresh out of school.

• Personal information: Marital status, sexual orientation, kids – none of that belongs on your resume.

• Salary requirements: You may have to choose a range on an application – but that should not be on your resume.

If you’re sending your resume electronically, it’s also a good idea to copy and paste your resume into the body of an email. It can’t hurt to give a potential employer a sneak peak at that attachment they might not bother to open.
