Injury or illness can ruin your vacation. Take these precautions...

The last thing you want is to get sick or hurt on your vacation. 1 in 5 people do...

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has some tips to help ensure that doesn’t happen to you:

• Pack your own meds: You want to avoid buying any medications while traveling – especially abroad.

• Foreign bugs: You’ll want to have insect repellent for the whole family regardless of where you’re going. Health officials are concerned about a possible rise in malaria. Ask your doctor about precautions if you’re traveling to a high-risk region.

• Stretch on the plane: Any flight longer than 8 hours increases the risk of dangerous blood clots. Drink plenty of fluid and wear loose clothing. The same goes for long rides in the car.

• Avoid injury: Tourists are 10 times more likely to suffer an injury in an unfamiliar place. Hire a driver familiar with the area and avoid overcrowded buses.
