If your dentist wants X-rays every time you go – just say no!
Researchers from Yale and Brigham and Women’s Hospital found that adults who received bitewing exams once a year or more are 50% more likely to develop a brain tumor. Those who had been given panorex exams, which are X-rays that show all of the teeth, had triple the risk.
The American Dental Association recommends routine dental X-rays ever two to three years for adults – and every one to two years for children. If you’re visiting the dentist for a cavity or another dental problem – ask the doctor to X-ray just that area.
