The next time you’re entering a highway – floor it!

Whether you’re planning a road trip, or just driving to work – might as well save some gas doing it...

Popular Mechanics has a few ways to save that might surprise you:

• When entering a highway, accelerate to 60 mph at about double your car’s 0-to-60 rate. This puts the car in its more efficient top gear quicker than crawling up to speed.

• Skip shifting into neutral when coasting. Neutral requires a trickle of gas to keep the engine going, coasting in gear does not.

• When you’re running errands – start with the farthest place first and work your way back. It heats up the car faster which helps it run more efficiently.

• Skip the AC and roll down the windows on local roads - it really does save gas. At highway speed, AC is a better option.

• Empty the trunk. Hauling around those beach chairs and bags of mulch is a waste of gas.
