Some reusable shopping bags could contain lead in the paint used to decorate them – especially those made in China and some others with elaborate designs. Those bags should be perfectly safe while they’re in good condition. However, if the paint or decorations start to peel or flake off – you’re better off tossing that bag to reduce the risk of any of it getting into your groceries or food.
If you like using – and reusing shopping bags – opt for one made from natural fibers without a lot of color or decoration involved.
