ATM Alert

You NEED to shield your hand when you punch in your PIN number - anywhere...

The next time you need to punch in your PIN number at a gas station, store or even the ATM – shield your hand! Thieves are cleaning out accounts thanks to new technology that can make it easier than ever for them to get all your information. First, they place a device called a skimmer right over the actual card reader. There’s a tiny chip in there that copies your account information off of the magnetic strip on the card. Then, they strategically place a camera above or near the machine that captures you punching in your pin.

The next time you swipe your card somewhere – give the card reader a tug. If it feels loose or looks out of place in any way – don’t use it – and let the police know about it. Also, be sure to shield your hand any time you’re entering your pin.
