Some people leave some of those drippings and grease in the firebox of their grills for flavor. But according to Bob Markovich, of Consumer Reports, you should really clean that out. Those tasty drippings can attract rodents and other wildlife you’d rather not have squirming into where you cook. When you’re finished grilling, crank those flames up on high, close the cover, and let those leftovers burn off for about 10 minutes.
There could be some other critters in your grill too. When you turn it on, check the flames to be sure they’re uniform. If they’re not, there could be some debris or spider webs in the burner tubes. You can remove them and clean them out easily with a coat hanger.
