Do you stand in the supermarket savagely ripping apart every ear of corn to find the best ones?
There are a few things to look for BEFORE you start shredding. Check the husks. They should be bright green and feel slightly damp. If they are dry or losing color, that corn is old. Next, check the stem cut, it should be clean and moist. If it’s already brown, that corn was picked a long time ago.
Once you’ve found some suitable ears to start tearing at, look at the kernels at the end of the cob. It’s okay if they are undeveloped. If the kernels at the end are full and yellow, it’s probably still good but may be a tougher ear of corn overall.
