Is it a good idea to say no to your boss? Yes!
I’ll tell you why, in a moment…Payoff:A lot of people are asked to do a lot more at work these days, sometimes for less money and in less time. According to Susan Newman, author of “The Book of No,” we should really take some time to consider those requests. By agreeing to everything, we can damage our reputation and hurt our career if that request can’t be met. When you really need to say no, Dr. Newman suggests offering an alternative. Maybe you can contribute in a different way or tackle the project at another time.
When a no is in order, it’s best to do it in person. Email messages don’t convey your tone of voice which could help you. Also, avoid details. Don’t give a laundry list of reasons for your no – keep it short and sincere, with a valid explanation.
