Burger Boost

The next time you make hamburgers – add some oregano...

If hamburgers or meatloaf are on the menu any time soon – add some fresh oregano. Researchers at Kansas State University tested a bunch of household spices for their antibacterial properties – and oregano won. Adding about 1 teaspoon per pound of meat can wipe out any potential bacteria in the raw meat.

Also, if you like thick, juicy burgers, consider flattening them out a bit. Fat patties will char on the outside before the inside hits that important 160 degree safety mark.
