If you’ve got a smartphone – beware of cold weather!

You probably already know that cold weather can drain the life out of your smartphone battery – but did you know it can do some permanent damage?

Most iPhone users aren’t even aware that Apple warns you not to use it in temperatures below 32⁰ F. Doing so will void the manufacturer’s warranty. PC World put some smartphone’s to the test and started dropping the temperature. Here’s what happened:

• At 23⁰ the iPhone reported a sim card error.

• At 14⁰ the device displayed dead battery and shut down.

If you’re phone has been exposed to super-cold temperatures, it’s a good idea to warm it up gradually. Some phones experienced condensation issues and permanent damage when brought out of the cold and into a warm room. Avoid using your device until it’s back to room temperature.
