If you’ll be hitting the road this holiday – don’t buy gas on the highway. Where to get it for less...

If your holiday plans include a road trip, you may want to go over the river and through the woods for gas...

Gas is almost always more expensive on or near an interstate. Here are a few strategies to save on fuel:

• Consider exiting and finding a gas station a mile from the highway.

• Pay in cash. The price of gas at most stations is less if you don’t use a credit card.

• Buy your gas early. When the price of fuel is on the rise, most stations make the switch late morning or midday.

• If you’re brave – head for the wrong side of town. Gas prices are considerably lower in less desirable neighborhoods due to their lower overhead costs.

• Pack your app. Gas saving apps like GasBuddy will work on any smartphone and could save you up to 20 cents a gallon!
