If you’re travelling with someone of the opposite sex, pack some patience. Gender travel preferences...

If that romantic getaway takes a turn for the worse before you clear security – blame the opposite sex...

Men and women have very different preferences when it comes to travel:

• Women are more likely to check a bag because they tend to bring more creams and cosmetics than they can fit in a one-quart zip-top bag. Men prefer to take only a carry-on, and don’t want to have to wait for their luggage.

• Women prefer a window seat, with the shade pulled down. Two out of three men prefer the aisle seat, but still want the window shade up. Two arguments and you’re not even there yet.

• Use the armrest to negotiate the shade position. Men tend to commandeer that and spread out as much as possible. Women tend to curl up in in their seat, in order to avoid touching anyone.

• Can we at least agree on what to watch? Nope. Women prefer to watch in-flight movies, while men are more likely to watch live news and sports.

If you’re still speaking by the time you check into the hotel, keep in mind that women like to read in bed - and hotels are on their side. Most now have more bedside power outlets for e-readers and tablets.
