Are crazy ants coming for your phone?

Is your smartphone ant-proof?

There’s no app for that yet and the tech-hungry crazy ants could be headed your way. Crazy ants are real and they’re hard to kill because they don’t go for traditional pesticides. They’ve been dubbed “crazy” because they move around randomly, not in linear paths like most ants.

It’s true they’re attracted to smartphones and other electronic devices - but it’s not clear why because their food source is other insects or sweet sap. Scientists have determined that once the crazy ant crawls into your device, they’re killed on contact with the elements in there. Once that happens, their bodies release pheromones that attract their crazy friends and the invasion begins. So far, crazy ants are only problematic in the Southeastern U.S.
