What is the best way to clean a baby’s pacifier?
Suck on it. It may sound disgusting but a new study has determined that sucking your baby’s pacifier actually boosts baby’s immune systems. Researchers followed some babies, their parents and their pacifiers for about 18 months. Babies whose parents cleaned the pacifier by sucking on it were 63% less likely to develop eczema or food sensitivities and 88% less likely to develop asthma than babies whose parents used a different method such as boiling or rinsing in tap water.
The scientists believe that parents’ saliva on the pacifiers introduces immune boosting microbes to the infants early on which help to increase protective responses to germs. Earlier studies have confirmed that babies of germaphobes living in more sterile environments are more sensitive and prone to developing allergies and asthma.
