If you like potato chips - I bet you can’t eat just one...
A new study says that’s because they’re addictive - for real. Scientists looked at some brains of people eating and found that certain foods triggered heroin-like activity in there. Seemingly harmless potato chips are a prime example and could be considered a gateway food to the hard stuff like milkshakes, cheesecake and other addicting “high-glycemic index” foods.
Processed carbs get our blood sugars high. Plain old potatoes and white bread are how most of us get hooked. The glycemic content in those go straight to our heads and stimulate the craving and pleasure centers of the brain leaving us wanting more.
