If you’ve got a smartphone – it could be running your life...
Who's in charge - you or your smartphone? Here are some questions to ask:
• Do you look at your smartphone as soon as you wake up?
• Do you check every notification wherever you are?
• Do you hear a sigh from friends or family when you check it?
• Do you look at it right before bed?
If you answered yes to those questions – your smartphone is running your life. Dr. Jim Taylor, author of “The Cluttered Mind Uncluttered,” has got the five basic rules to follow:
1. Don’t look at it in the morning until you get to work.
2. Don’t look at it unless you’re ready to act or respond.
3. Turn it OFF for all meetings - you’re not the only one distracted by it.
4. Don’t check your smartphone less than 30 minutes before bed.
5. Don’t use it when you are interacting with others in real life.
Make sure YOU’RE the one in control. When the people in your life get used to the idea that you’re not constantly on or reachable – they’ll stop expecting an immediate response from you.
