If you plan on quitting your job...

Some of us fantasize about how we’d LIKE to quit our job – but the right way to do it isn’t nearly as much fun. It’s important not to let excitement get in the way of making a proper exit. First, tell the boss ASAP. You want to avoid letting rumors or gossip beat you to it. Two weeks notice is usually standard – and you should make them count. Offer to help train a replacement, wrap up as many loose ends as possible, and start taking detailed notes to leave about specifics.

You never know who you might run into or work with in the future – take a moment before peeling out of the parking lot to thank the people who were supportive or mentored you – and exchange contact information.
