You can remember having a hot dog at that game last year – but not the person’s name you met last night....
We’re more likely to remember details about a restaurant from years ago than that appointment we just made or someone’s name. Our senses have a lot to do with what we remember or forget. Taste and smell are powerful memory triggers – when those senses are activated whatever is happening at that moment sinks in a bit more.
The same goes for temperature and weather – you’ll remember details from that dash through a downpour or cold movie theater much more vividly than a meeting in a comfortable environment.
