When is the last time you ate sauerkraut? Why it’s not just for hot dogs anymore...

When you think sauerkraut you probably don’t think trendy superfood - but good old sauerkraut is super good for us.

It’s packed with probiotics and other super stuff like vitamins C and K, potassium, fiber, folate and iron. While sauerkraut can help to redeem a not-so-healthy hot dog, go ahead and give it a chance with some other meats like corned beef and pot roast or in a savory stew or soup like potato leek. Chopped sauerkraut can add a nice zing and texture to guacamole and salsas or even add a new dimension to that boring old salad or sandwich.

When buying sauerkraut, look for brands that are labeled “raw” and “unpasteurized.” Or get creative and make your own. All you’ll need is some cabbage, salt and a mason jar.
