A lot of cycling enthusiasts prefer to ride without a helmet.
Well now there’s something new on the market that might change their minds and save lives. It’s called the Hövding and it’s an airbag - for your head. The Hövding was developed in Sweden and is actually a collar worn around your neck. The airbag is inside the comfortable nylon scarf and will instantly inflate into a hood surrounding your head on impact. Because it’s tailor made for biking with sensors built in to detect sudden changes in speed or movement, the Hövding is not recommended for other sports such as skiing.
The Hövding isn’t cheap. At $546, it costs more than most bikes but manufacturers are hoping to lower that price as demand for comfortable bike-riding protection increases. You can check them out at Hovding.com.
