Pet Emergency

Hopefully, you’ve got a survival kit for your family in case of emergency. But what about your pet?

In case of an emergency – do you have a kit ready for your pet? FEMA provides a list of what you’ll need. Consider two kits. In one, put everything you and your pets will need to stay where you are. The other should be a lightweight, smaller version you can take with you if you and your pets have to get away. The kit contents should include:

• At least three days of food in an airtight, waterproof container.
• Three days of water specifically for your pets.
• Medicines and medical records - and a pet first aid reference book.
• A backup leash, collar and ID tag.
It’s also a good idea to have a picture of you and your pet together. If you become separated it will help you document ownership. Put a few familiar items in your kit too, some favorite toys or treats can help reduce stress for your pet.
