Brain Lock

Have you ever gone completely blank – mid-sentence?

It happens to the best of us – a senior moment – at any age. You’re mid-sentence and your mind goes blank - or telling a story and forget what the point was. The most common triggers for this brain lock are nerves or stress and it’s usually nothing to worry about. Almost everyone experiences it from time to time. Scientists have found another common trigger is when we we’re thinking fast or rushing through a story. Our brains may get ahead of our speech – anxious to get to the payoff or punch line – and we need a moment to catch up.

Brain lock can be embarrassing – but our best hope for a graceful recovery is usually to cop to the phenomenon. Go ahead and say it – “My mind just went blank.” Most likely, the person you’re talking with has been there and done that too.
