Drinking really hot tea could be a health hazard. According to a recent study – there was an increased rate of esophageal cancer in a particular region in Iran. The one thing they had in common was drinking REALLY hot tea – above 158 degrees. The author of the study says it’s possible that the hot tea could damage the lining of the esophagus, making it more vulnerable to carcinogens.
They haven’t found a link yet with other piping hot beverages – but we’re probably better off letting our brews cool a bit before sipping.
