Smaller Is Better

The next time you buy fruit – go smaller...

Our fruits and vegetables are getting bigger and more beautiful by the decade – but that’s not necessarily a good thing. Modern fruits are bred for appearance, sweetness and size, not nutrition, and they have less fiber, vitamins and antioxidants than you would find in the wild.

If you like fruit – opt for small varieties like apricots, cherries and berries. They have a greater skin to flesh ratio. Also, look for the terms “heirloom” and “wild-grown” – those are not bred for appearances and have a higher concentration of nutrients.
