Do you know someone who panics on tests?

If you or a student you know goes blank, freezes up or panics for a test – that’s test anxiety...

It’s real and it can have a terrible impact on grades, self-esteem and even opportunities if it’s not addressed. Test anxiety can range from butterflies, stomachache or tension headaches to nausea and even passing out in extreme cases.

Identifying test anxiety is the first step. It’s a pretty common reaction and is part of our built-in “fight or flight” mechanism. The good news is, you care about your performance and want to succeed. Some people can learn to use that natural anxiety and extra shot of adrenaline to their advantage once they understand it.

For severe cases of test anxiety, it’s really important to ask for help. Let the teacher, school, guidance counselor or advisor know what’s happening. They’re equipped with strategies and resources that can make a big difference before and during a test – and in the score.
