Storing Fresh Herbs

Some of our favorite herbs are really thriving now...

Basil, Mint and cilantro are at their peak in a lot of gardens. You can keep cut herbs fresher for longer with a plastic milk or water jug. Just cut the top off, fill with a couple of inches of water - and then pop your herbs in there for refrigeration. It will keep them looking and tasting fresher and will also fit nicely into one of the refrigerator door shelves if you use the half gallon size. Cover them loosely with a plastic bag and they could stay fresh for up to two weeks.

Don’t bother washing the herbs until just before you’re ready to use them. Any extra moisture on the leaves can cause them to rot.
