Chemical Calories

Is your shampoo making you fat? Maybe...

Why is it that the stuff we love most seems to make us fat? Now we might have to add our shampoo and makeup to that list. New research says there could be chemical calories lurking in our beauty products like shampoo, lotions, makeup and even our soap. Some household cleaning products have them too. The weight-gain culprits in there are the (thalates) phthalates. They’re used as gelling agents in cosmetics and cleaning products – and are also in most of the plastic containers. Scientists say they can affect the glands and hormones that regulate our weight.

Experts say it’s important to remember anything we put on our skin is absorbed into our bodies. It’s best to use products without phthalates and other unnecessary chemicals.
