If you’re anxious to dust off the lawnmower for some spring action in the next few weeks...
...Consumer Reports’ mowing expert Peter Sawchuk has some advice. Your mower could probably use a little attention after all that down-time. Here is some good spring mower protocol:
• Remove last year’s gasoline. Take it out or run it dry. Put in some fresh gasoline with some fuel stabilizer.
• Change the oil at the start of each season and make sure the proper level is maintained. That’s very important for the life of the engine.
• Go ahead and change the spark plugs – it will really help with faster, cleaner starts.
• Clean inside the deck – every time you mow. Debris blocks the air flow in there.
• Sharpen blades once a month. Buy a second blade so you can change them out and have a month to get the other one sharpened. A cleaner cut means greener grass.
