Most workplaces have a mix of good, bad and mediocre employees – and some even have a remarkable employee. Could it be you?
Here are some requirements that qualify for that title:
• They ignore job descriptions. Remarkable employees think on their feet, adapt quickly, and do whatever it takes to get things done. They know if there’s a problem, without being told, and jump right in to help – even if it’s not their job.
• They’re eccentric. They may seem slightly odd - but in a really good way. They’re not afraid to be different and challenge the status quo.
• They know when to dial it back. An unusual personality is a lot of fun... until it isn't. Remarkable employees know when to play and when to be serious.
• They praise publicly. Praise from a boss feels good. Praise from a peer feels awesome. Remarkable employees recognize the contributions of others.
• They complain privately. Remarkable employees come to you before or after a meeting to discuss a sensitive issue.
• They speak when others won’t. Remarkable employees have a keen feel for the concerns of those around them - and will step up to ask questions when others hesitate.
If you know a remarkable employee – don’t hold it against them. They’re usually driven by something deeper and more personal than just the desire to do a good job – and because they just can’t help it.
