If you’re buying new tires, should they go on the front or back axle?

A good set of tires can be the difference between a close call and an accident...

It’s a good idea to check the tread on your tires with the change of each season – and rotate! If you notice any uneven wear, you probably need a wheel alignment. You can measure the depth of your tread with a penny. Put it head first into the tread. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head – it’s time for new tires.

If you do need new tires, it’s best to buy all four at once. Front tires take much more of a beating than the rear ones – and if you rotate the front and back tires each season, you’ll get a lot more life and even wear on them. If you don’t rotate – and you’re only buying two new tires at a time, it’s best to put the new ones in back, and move the back to the front. That will give you better traction on wet roads.

  1. It is always a question of every car owner when to change tires. The truth is, there is no definite answer to that question. It would depend on how often you use your car. Also, your driving manner would affect your tire’s lifespan. A more careful driver would most likely have longer-lasting tires.
