Good Friday marks the day of Christ’s suffering and death. So what’s so GOOD about it?

What is so good about Good Friday?

It’s a question that gets asked a lot by children and adults alike. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, the origin of the term “Good” is not clear. The phrase “Good Friday” does not appear in the Bible, nor does the word “Friday.” What we call Good Friday is known by different names in different countries, including Holy Friday, Black Friday, Great Friday, Long Friday and Silent Friday.

Some theorize the phrase evolved from “God’s Friday” or “Holy Friday,” as the word good evolved from the word “God” and is akin to the word “Holy.”
